Sunday Breakfast

I’m not sure why El Lay breakfasts are so darn expensive.  Coffee, two eggs over-easy, potatoes and bacon for $12?  Call me, er, frugal, but the place around the corner from my house serves an amazing breakfast for $5 with totally great, friendly waitresses -(I’m not being sexist, it’s always a waitress) – and pictures of Annie Oakley and Wild Bill Hickok on the wall.  Wait, what am I whining about?  I loved my California weekend.  I got to hang with awesome friends, eat great food, check out the old ‘hood, enjoy an afternoon on Vermont, and cruise Laurel Canyon with the windows down, among other things.  I shoulda said something to Katherine Heigl to make her feel better about the opening weekend of Killers while I had the chance, though.

Wait…

Alright, I know the previous post is a link to a short piece about my long-time preference for a certain magazine title, but geesh, the Oxford American has been totally ruling me lately.  I had only recently discovered the title in recent months, but I’ve ordered back issues to enjoy more of its goodness.   I just couldn’t wait for new issues to arrive.  It’s everything one could want in a magazine, including beautiful photographs and wonderfully themed issues (i.e. music, food, ‘The Best of the South’). Man alive, why didn’t anyone tell me about it sooner?  I guess what I’m saying is…well, maybe *this* is my favorite magazine?

Cracked Like The Liberty Bell

Howdy from Nashville/Mesquite. Advice to the Graduate: Don’t go on weekend holidays with dames you don’t know well. iPod terror and hobnobbing among the flip-flopped leisure class may ensue. Check tour dates for a one-off thing up in Philadelphia w/ pals Walker Lundee and Jetpack.

Maple Almonds

saw dwight yoakam at billy bob’s last night and it was worth every penny of the $11 ticket price. it was even worth the ethnic slur i took with a smirk from a drunk cowboy on my way out. i shoulda given ‘m the old knuckle sandwich. what else? skip the aristocrats. but rent gilmore girls on netflix if you can. just don’t admit it to yr friends. alright, back to gtr strum, the thin blue line on dvd, and a bag of maple almonds…..
